I first read about Azure Standard several years ago by reading other natural-minded blogs, and I’m so glad we jumped on the bandwagon! If you’ve never heard of the company before, we’d love to share with you why we love Azure and how it’s helped us in our health journey!
Azure states on its website under the “What We Do” section, “What exactly do we do here at Azure? Our main business is healthy food distribution . . . ” But, you ask, why can’t I just go to my local market and pick up organic food for my family there? Great question. What does Azure do, and what sets them apart?
There are three main reasons we love Azure . . . first, and most practically, we love that we can save money! Azure acts like a food co-op, so by “sharing the load” with other families and individuals, we not only save money by buying in bulk, but also by having our shipping costs waived because the order is so big. Here’s how it works: first, you sign up for a “drop,” a geographical location that receives the food deliveries. Our family has signed up for two drop points, so we can potentially pick up our orders twice a month (each location receives deliveries once a month). That way if we forget to order something or if a product isn’t available for the date we want, we can try again for the next drop later in the month. Each time a drop receives a delivery, it must meet its minim order of $550.00, meaning all the orders from the people that belong to that drop must total that amount. There’s usually no problem meeting this price when the minimum purchase you must make each time is $50 (you can order less than this but will be charged a small parcel order fee of $2.50 for ground shipping). So again, not only are we saving money by buying some things in bulk (although Azure is not only for bulk items – you can by some things individually, too!), but we also don’t have to pay for shipping! All we have to invest is the gas money to pay to drive to our drop sites, which are both reasonably close.
Second, we love that we can buy items in bulk we can’t find anywhere else. The 50# bags of organic millet we buy to make our own chicken feed? Can’t get that at our local feed store! And the price is about $10 less than what we’d pay on Amazon. Bulk vegetables and fruits can be hard to come by if you don’t have a local produce buyer to work with, but Azure makes buying lots of nutrient-rich food possible. And we’ve been able to buy so many things we can’t find at local grocery stores . . . raw carob powder, flax crackers with clean ingredients, organic açaí puree without additives, and on and on.
Thirdly, we love that we’re supporting an ethical company. From the time they started up, Azure has been making choices to support the earth rather than harm it. In 1971 their family farm decided to stop using chemicals to grow food, and they started selling this food to better peoples’ health. Customers began to ask to buy more healthy products they didn’t grow, so in 1987, Azure Standard was started to supply these things. We love that in our dealings with them they have been upright and full of integrity; for example, they let us know when they hit a rough growing season and couldn’t supply some bulk products for a time. Their customer service has been fantastic, too. We love that they grow some of their own food to sell right there on their farm! And we love that we are taking care of the planet by buying cutting back on fuel emissions and buying from a local bulk supplier (their distribution plant is in Moro, Oregon, and we’re also in the Pacific Northwest – although they deliver to 37 states, and even to Alaska and Hawaii!) and being able to buy some bulk items in compostable paper bags.
We’d highly encourage you to check out the company at http://www.azurestandard.com and see if there’s a local drop-point near you! We can almost guarantee you you won’t regret it!
In the next part of this two-part series, we’ll share some practical ways to utilize Azure Standard. Thanks for reading!
